All Hinsdale Central quarterback Brett Morse could do was stand on the sideline and watch as the Red Devils’ halftime lead–and their then-No. 4 ranking–was disappearing.
Morse’s replacement, Kasey Ourado, threw a fourth-down interception deep in Oak Park territory and the Huskies held on for a 10-7 upset Saturday.
Oak Park improved to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the West Suburban Silver Conference, while Hinsdale Central fell to 3-1, 0-1.
“We knew they were a playoff team,” Oak Park quarterback Justin Brown said. “After the two losses we had it feels great to beat a team like Hinsdale.”
Oak Park scored first on a 34-yard field goal by Sam Franks in the second quarter, but Morse’s 5-yard run put the Red Devils ahead at halftime.
However, it proved a costly score for Morse and the Red Devils. The quarterback did not return after his touchdown and later said he believed he might have torn a ligament in his arm.
“I was debating as I was running whether to dive or not and there was no one in there so I decided not to dive and I loosened up enough and one guy hit me low, one guy hit me high,” Morse said. “We don’t know anything [regarding an official diagnosis] other than it hurts.”
De’Angelo Wisdom’s 2-yard TD run late in the fourth quarter won it for Oak Park.
