Edith M. Bitterman, nee Hildebrand, age 85, of Waukegan, at rest Saturday, October 1, 2005. Edith was born on January 20, 1920 to Eric and Elizabeth, nee Grimm, Hildebrand in Lauenburg, Pomerania, Germany. In 1928, she came to the United States from Germany with her mother to join her father in Chicago. Edith was a graduate of Lakeview High School in Chicago. On August 1, 1959, she married Jay Bitterman in Chicago. She was active in the Chicago Poetry circles and organized “The Chicago Free Poets” during the mid 1960’s. Loving wife of Jay Bitterman of Waukegan; and caring mother of Allan Meinecke of Kenosha, WI. Services were private for the family.
