One day after smashing the IHSA girls state golf tournament record with a 6-under-par 66, Emily Powers of Quincy Notre Dame entered the record books again Saturday at Stone Creek Golf Course.

Powers fought back from a quadruple-bogey 8 on the 15th hole and went on to win her second straight title by four shots over Nicole Schachner of Libertyville.

In tying the 36-hole state tournament record of 143 set by Emily Gilley of Homewood-Flossmoor in 1997, Powers met her goals.

“Because of the amount of time I’ve put in and where I came from a few years ago, this means a lot to be able to tie the state record,” Powers said.

“I think I had it to 7 under par heading into the back nine, but then we had a long wait and play really got slow. I’m happy though.”

Ashley Freeman of Belleville East, Kate White of Carmel and Haily Koschmann of Lake Forest tied for third place with two-round totals of 148.

Normal Community, which did not have a player finish in the top 13 in the individual competition, won the team title with a 639.

Lyons and Marian Catholic tied for second at 657.

New Trier was fourth with a 659 total.
