Thank you, White Sox, for bringing baseball back to me. Growing up a few miles from Comiskey Park (where the team played back then), I used to be a huge White Sox fan. In fact I was at a baseball clinic there in the mid-’80s when a young, non-English speaking, new to the White Sox Ozzie Guillen enthusiastically participated.

I see his excitement for baseball and the Sox has waned little since then.

I have grown away from baseball (and the Sox) as the game has become more commercial, ego-driven and overhyped.

My inner Sox fan, however, has been compelled to follow the team in the playoffs toward what all Sox fans have craved for a long time.

What I have been treated to is baseball as it should be–good play, solid pitching and defense, timely hitting and team play.

It must have been a tough decision to single out an MVP when so many contributed to the American League title for the team.

It is no wonder that the national media are lost when it comes to considering and talking about the Sox because the team is not about star players and prima donna moments, but just good, solid and, to some, boring play.

There seems to be little to prevent the Sox from winning the World Series, and to me, this will not be only great for Chicago but for baseball in general.

Go Sox!
