A proposal to add an off-track betting parlor to the Bowling Green Sports Center, at 243 W. Roosevelt Rd., was withdrawn following an advisory panel vote against the idea.

The Plan Commission voted 4-1 earlier this month against the idea that would have required the city to grant a special-use permit and also add OTB parlors as an allowable use in B-2 zoning districts.

“It’s unfortunate,” said Thomas Kolschowsky, corporate counsel for Stahelin Properties, which owns Bowling Green. “This would have made another destination in West Chicago for people in the area coming through the Route 38 corridor.”

Kolschowsky said the owners have not yet decided whether to proceed with a remodeling project with the OTB parlor element removed from the plan.
