Michael E. Olbrich of Oak Park, IL, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005. (in his own words) he was born 19 April 1920, son of Isabel Wilson and Michael B. Olbrich. Educated in the Madison, WI schools, including U of W where he was a member of the Chi Psi Fraternity and various orchestras. During WWII his military service was almost entirely in the South West Pacific Theater. Following the war years, Mr. Olbrich’s principle commercial interest was within the textile industry where he devoted much time to travel. His final 13 working years were spent as manager of the Beckley Cardy Teacher’s Store in Oak Brook, IL. His retirement years in Oak Park were spent gardening, recording music and helping his son maintain a two flat they shared. Mr. Olbrich was predeceased by his wife, Frances and their daughter, Patricia. He is survived by his son, Michael; three grandchildren, Michael (Erick) Olbrich, Megan Kundert and Bethany Soreng; and two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Nathan Kundert. There are no services currently scheduled. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael E. Olbrich Memorial Fund at Olbrich Botanical Gardens in Madison, WI or to Hospice Partners in Hillside, IL.
