Eastern Illinois is on a roll. The Panthers have won five games in a row. They lead the Ohio Valley Conference with a 5-0 record. Last week’s 27-6 victory over Tennessee-Martin lifted them to Nos. 24 and 25 in two Division I-AA national polls.
True to his coaching creed, though, Bob Spoo expressed caution on the eve of Saturday’s game at Tennessee State.
“We made many mistakes last week that could have cost us the game,” Spoo said. “We have to improve to maintain our spot at the top of the standings.”
Tailback Vincent Webb and linebacker Clint Sellers have been key contributors during the winning streak. Webb bettered 100 rushing yards for the fourth straight week, rushing 27 times for 145 yards last week. Sellers was named OVC defensive player of the week with two interceptions, 10 tackles and a sack.
