– “Elton John: The Red Piano,” a Las Vegas extravaganza taped at Caesars Palace, aired Monday night on NBC without a segment in which John sang “The Bitch Is Back” while an oversized screen behind him displayed a scantily clad Pamela Anderson moving suggestively around a dance pole. After an assessment by its standards and practices department the network decided Anderson’s pole-dancing didn’t mesh with the time slot.
– Bob Dylan has signed on to serve as host of a weekly one-hour program on XM Satellite Radio, spinning records and offering commentary on new music and other topics, starting in March. The famously reclusive 64-year-old performer said in a statement Tuesday that “a lot of my own songs have been played on the radio, but this is the first time I’ve ever been on the other side of the mike.”
– A museum chronicling the life of “Rebel Without a Cause” star James Dean will close Dec. 31. Owner David Loehr moved the James Dean Gallery to Gas City, Ind., from Fairmount, Ind., where Dean attended high school, less than two years ago. “I’m just getting further into debt and I just can’t do it anymore,” Loehr said.
– Sting will headline next year’s Tiger Woods benefit concert, the Tiger Jam IX, at the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino April 29 in Las Vegas. Proceeds will go to local charities and the Tiger Woods Learning Center, a youth-education facility in Anaheim.
