– Elton John said forming a civil partnership with longtime love David Furnish in Britain this week will be “the happiest day of my life,” but said he’s sorry for the many gay couples who live in countries that prohibit such unions. “Next Wednesday, on the happiest day of my life, when I celebrate a civil partnership with David, I will be thinking . . . about those less fortunate than we are,” John wrote in The Observer newspaper.

– Steven Spielberg has hired Eyal Arad, one of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s top strategists, to market “Munich,” his controversial new film about Israel’s retaliation for the Palestinian attack on its team at the 1972 Olympics. “We are talking about a film that has generated a lot of interest here, and naturally that sort of interest can entail some negative reactions as well as positive reactions,” Arad said. “Munich” opens in the U.S. on Friday and in Israel on Jan. 26.
