Police on Monday were investigating a CTA bus accident in which a rider stumbled into the driver, causing the bus to crash into a fence on the South Side.

The accident occurred about 10:15 p.m. Sunday, when the No. 103 bus was eastbound on West 103rd Street near South Perry Avenue.

A rider approached the driver and notified her that he was being beaten by riders in the back of the bus, police spokeswoman Laura West said Monday.

The man had asked to be dropped off at the next stop when he was approached by other riders, who kicked him, West said. The man fell into the driver, who lost control and struck the fence, West said.

About a dozen people, including the driver, were injured and taken to area hospitals, West said. All were treated for minor injuries and released, West said.

“It’s still an ongoing investigation,” she said, adding that investigators are reviewing the bus surveillance tape.
