The addition by the McHenry County sheriff of a $7,500, 12-ton armored vehicle to a fleet of squad cars (“Sheriff gets heavy-duty military vehicle,” Metro, Jan. 8) brought to mind the long-running Western television series “Gunsmoke.” I can hear Festus shouting to the other deputy: “Git the marshal’s tank. A fight’s broken out down at the Long Branch . We may have to ram our way through the back wall, dontchasee?”
