Long bus trips to school will become a thing of the past in 2007 for Plainfield pupils living in Oswego Unit School District 308.
The District 308 board this week unanimously approved plans to build a new kindergarten through 5th-grade school in Plainfield’s Grande Park development.
The $10.5 million project will be on a 35-acre site at Grande Park Boulevard and Peppertree Drive and includes room for a future junior high school. The elementary school is slated to open in time for the 2007-2008 school year.
Elementary school pupils in the southern part of the 68-square-mile district are bused to Oswego’s East View Elementary, a 20-mile daily round trip for some.
The school construction is the last from a $155 million proposal approved by voters in 2002. An advisory committee is examining future building and financing needs and is scheduled to issue a report in the spring.
