Coming soon: cell phones that can connect to myspace.com to share photos and text.
A company called Helio–a joint venture between wireless phone providers EarthLink Inc. and a South Korea-based SK Telecom Co.–will offer two wireless multimedia phones that provide high-speed access to MySpace.
The new phones will let more than 55 million MySpace members connect to one another without using a computer, Helio said in a statement last week.
The Korean-made phones and the Helio service will be offered in the U.S. in the spring, the statement said. MySpace will enable users to access and send e-mail, send instant messages, and view photos and profiles of others using the phones.
The new Hero phone, made by Pantech, will have a high-resolution screen, stereo speakers, removable memory, a digital camera, and will play music and video clips, Helio said. The Kickflip, made by VK Mobile, will have similar features as well as a screen that can swivel left and right, Helio said.
MySpace is owned by media giant News Corp., which also owns the Fox networks.
