Notre Dame will get a do-over Wednesday afternoon, when it gets a rematch with fifth-seeded Georgetown in the Big East tournament at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The Irish, who claimed the 12th and final seed with Saturday’s 66-61 victory over DePaul, dropped an 85-82 double-overtime decision to Georgetown at the Joyce Center on Jan. 24.
If the Irish get past the Hoyas, they would earn their third meeting of the season with No. 4 seed Marquette, which gets a first-round bye.
That Notre Dame (15-12) will even be in New York is a miracle of sorts. The Irish began the Big East season with a 1-8 mark but rebounded with a 5-2 finish.
As coach Mike Brey put it Saturday, “We can talk about dreaming big dreams now.”
Georgetown (19-8) is coming off an embarrassing 63-56 loss to South Florida, the only Big East victory the Bulls managed in their first season in the conference.
