A recent cartoon in the Tribune (Gallery, April 8), depicting an elderly man trying to change the time on his VCR (with no success), reminded me of a similar scenario in our home. I have a TV in our basement that I watch while on my bike or treadmill. Some time ago I was given a used VCR and thought it would be nice to have it hooked up to the TV in the basement.
Two of our sons, both college-educated and not so young themselves, offered to hook it up. They were not successful either. A few days later, our 13-year-old grandson came by and I related the problem to him. He went down to the basement, came up in less than five minutes and said, “It’s all set, Grandpa.”
So as a reward, and the generous spirit that I am, I gave it to him to use on his own TV.
