I am a retired, traditional American history teacher (for 30 years).
It used to be common practice for non-academic/revisionist teachers to leave new textbooks in cabinets and teach from their college notes and personal bias, as academic texts were a nuisance to their private, left-leaning presentations of American history.
Movies, speakers, prepared personal opinions with controversial and/or current topics with shallow academic merit were the norm.
To know what is supposed to be taught, how it is to be taught and with what materials is largely a mystery to the taxpaying public.
There also are quality textbooks published as well as inferior textbooks published.
And there also are real academic-like teachers and some who exploit their closed classrooms to propagandize.
