A man and a woman were found dead of what appeared to be drug overdoses Tuesday afternoon on the South Side, police said.

The two, who were in their 50s, were spotted in the 3100 block of South Prairie Avenue about 12:30 p.m., said Chicago Police Sgt. Eugene Mullins. When officers arrived at the scene, the two were unresponsive, Mullins said.

“We just found them DOA,” he said.

It was unclear what drug was involved or whether it was related to a spate of tainted heroin distributed on the South Side during the last few weeks, Mullins said.

The deaths are under investigation, he added, and toxicology results will not be complete for weeks.
