About the practice of holding children back a year before starting kindergarten so they will have an advantage in learning: Well all I have to say is, are their parents idiots?
I have an adult son who went to school with a few children who were held back.
Yes they were very smart.
However they didn’t want their classmates to know their ages–even at their own birthday parties!
The girls were into revealing clothing and boy-crazy two years before their classmates, and the boys were hanging out with high-school outcast types in junior high.
Don’t these parents realize their children will enter puberty two years before some of their classmates?
A 14-year-old is not going to be happy in a class of 12-year-olds.
Believe me.
I’ve seen this and it’s very hard on these kids.
