District U-46 and the Elgin Council of PTAs will hold a free leadership conference on the No Child Left Behind Act from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 21 in the Educational Service Center, 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin. The conference is for community leaders from civic and faith-based organizations, parent groups, teachers, staff and administration leaders, and will be facilitated by the Academic Development Institute and the Parent Information and Resource Center for Illinois. The 9th annual golf outing sponsored by the Schaumburg Township Elementary School Foundation will be held June 20 at Poplar Creek Country Club, 1400 Poplar Creek Blvd., Hoffman Estates. Registration will be held at 9:30 a.m., with the shotgun start at 11 a.m. and the putting contest qualifying at 4 p.m. A silent auction and awards dinner will follow. Sponsorships are available. The foundation provides financial and other resources for educational enhancement and enrichment programs at district schools. The cost is $120 per golfer, $450 per foursome, and $25 for dinner only. The District 54 Environmental Education Committee is collecting used crayons for its annual crayon recycling project. The committee collects a variety of items throughout the school year and donates them to a good cause. Donations may be dropped off through June 30 at the collection box at the district’s Nature Center behind Frost Junior High School, 320 W. Wise Rd., Schaumburg. The Music Department will present its annual Spring Jazz Concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Gilbert Theatre at Rolling Meadows High School, 2901 W. Central Rd. Applications are due June 15 for the Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships for study abroad during 2007-08. Scholarships are for one academic year abroad and provide funding for round-trip transportation, tuition and fees, room and board, some educational supplies, and language training if necessary, up to $26,000. Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships provide funding for three or six months of intensive language study and cultural immersion in another country, including transportation, tuition and home stay expenses, up to $12,000 and $19,000 respectively. Scholars will act as ambassadors of goodwill and through appearances, represent their homelands and work to further international understanding. At least two years of university or college work must have been completed when the scholarship begins.
