Illinois Valley Central missed a Class A basketball title by three points in March.
Saturday night the Grey Ghosts reappeared in the Class A baseball final and defeated Trenton Wesclin 8-3 to capture their first baseball title.
Basketball starter Zach McAllister more than pulled his weight Saturday. He improved to 12-1 in the quarterfinal game and struck out the last batter of the title game.
“To come so close in basketball and get it [Saturday night] it’s kind of like redemption for us,” he said. “We’ve worked so hard in baseball and it’s all paid off this year. It’s been a blast.”
Leadoff man Joel Gomez went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and scored twice for Illinois Valley Central (40-2).
Chris Shindley went 6 2/3 innings to improve to 6-0.
