Dimpna B. Clarin, born January 27, 1933, in the Philippines, died May 13, 2006, at home. Preceded in death by her husband, Rt. Rev. Lawrence J. Smith and brother Vril Clarin. Her stepdaughters, Dorothy G. Smith and Barbara L. Smith-Hobson survive her as well as her sister, Ijya Tulloss and brother-in-law James; nephews Mark and Carlos Tulloss, niece, Avril Taylor; grandson Eric F. Ebert Sr.; two greatgrandchildren. Dr. Clarin received her Bachelor of Music from the University of Santo Thomas, Philippines, and her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from the American Conservatory of Music, Chicago. She was a recording artist on the MICO, DBC and Saturn labels. After a successful Carnegie Hall debut, she gave many recitals in the United States, Philippines and Canada. Dr. Clarin taught Voice at South Suburban College in South Holland for the past 39 years. She was a member of the Faculty of the American Conservatory of Music, Mu Phi Epsilon Music Sorority and Lake View Music Society. She was an outstanding educator and a mentor to many students and friends. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, June 10, 9:30 a.m. at The Liberal Catholic Church, 12 West School Street, Villa Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Liberal Catholic Church.
