This is regarding “Anti-war acts” (Voice of the people, June 3), by Terry Nugent, who suggests that a citizen cannot criticize or question the collective “wisdom” of the president and Congress as to the reason for invading Iraq while simultaneously supporting our troops. This is nonsense. He doesn’t want to show our enemies a “divided homefront,” but ignores the fact that we have a divided homefront. As Americans we have the right and the duty to question the validity of the invasion of Iraq, which appears to have been based on faulty interpretations of intelligence and lies. The president wanted to end the reign of Saddam Hussein; this is why we went to war. This does not mean that a mother who has lost a son cannot struggle to make sense of his death and it does not mean the Tribune has completely changed its stance on the war because her story was printed. Don’t confuse intelligent questioning with non-support of troops.
