In response to “Cubs contributions” (Voice of the people, June 6), by letter writer Rick Novack, my experience is that most White Sox fans just like baseball, preferably good baseball. It’s not more complicated than that.
We support the team when they are playing well, we support the team when they are trying hard but not playing well, but most of us will not keep blindly filing into the ballpark when the owners put a substandard or poorly managed team on the field.
Novack can cite statistics about pull-through revenue to the neighborhoods and other civic impacts, but the fact is that maybe that’s all Cubs fans have to talk about.
I just like baseball, the game I played every day as a kid and the game in which I watched a bunch of very talented players, working as a team, walk away with the whole thing last year, enjoying their success and each other during every minute of the season.
It’s the game that we like–not very complicated at all.
