Many thanks for the article on the new city proposal to develop a 500-mile network of bicycle paths by 2015 (“Chicago’s master plan: Don’t drive, just bike; City peddling new proposal for 500-mile network of paths to be finished by 2015,” Page 1, June 11). This is exciting and the benefits are many.
In working toward the goal of a more bike-friendly city, there’s lots of opportunity for education–of bikers and drivers.
I wanted to point out that the photo that accompanied this article included two bikers who were not wearing helmets. I’d like to ask the Tribune to consider that any future photos that accompany articles on biking in the city include pictures only of bikers who are wearing helmets.
In my commute to work via bike, as well as bike rides for exercise and general transportation, I am frightened by the number of bikers who do not wear helmets.
Any opportunity we have to reinforce this important safety feature is great.
