Can someone explain why in Illinois an individual in an automobile must, by law, wear a seat belt for safety reasons while that same individual, on a motorcycle and not wearing a helmet, can cruise past a traffic police officer with no concern? The motorcyclist is not required to wear a helmet in the state of Illinois. Is the bare head of the motorcycle operator better protected in the event of an accident than the driver of an auto with airbags?

I think it is about time that Illinois join the many other states in this union that have mandated the wearing of helmets by motorcyclists and provide penalties for violators.
