When so much corporate scandal, government fraud and irresponsible big business practices have dominated the headlines in recent years, it’s wonderful to learn of Warren Buffett’s plans to donate the majority of his wealth to charity (particularly to such efficient, effective and reputable charities as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation). Buffett’s generosity will undoubtedly raise the standards of living for countless numbers of suffering people the world over and should help to finance tremendous leaps in education and medical science, perhaps even enough to offset (somewhat) the dark ages of medical science and education ushered in by our president.
Thanks go to Buffet for converting his life’s work into a charitable cause and for reminding us that sharing is an integral part of the American experience. My sincere hope is that others who wield power follow his lead.
