The Olympics in Chicago–what an exciting project for all of us in the Chicago area and throughout the United States.
As a child, I had the dream that I would be at one of the Olympic stadiums either as a competing athlete or tourist. But now we hope to have the Olympics right in our city, Chicago, where I have lived most of my life with my family, friends and others.
But I am also a realist and am thinking of the possible dangers of attracting terrorists as happened in 1972 at the Olympics in Munich.
We know terrorists, at various times, also have attacked in the U.S. and elsewhere.
I hope Mayor Richard M. Daley has considered that hosting the Olympics here will make Chicago another prime target for terrorists.
I am wondering if we are inviting trouble. Should we forget the ambitious Olympics project? Should we or should we not discourage the mayor with this American dream?
