Please talk to me like I’m a 2-year-old and explain the following: I must pitch my bottled water or any other beverage before going through the security checkpoint. I can purchase beverages in the “sterile” area of the airport. I am expected to jettison my beverage before boarding a plane (honor system with random carry-on checks at the gate–not enough personnel to do a thorough check). I can be served beverages on board. Do these new security measures really make us safer? Or is this more window dressing to make us think we are more secure? I guess it’s all in the perception.
