Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I’ve been a Cubs nut for 62 years, and the current team is as fundamentally unsound as some of those “Keystone Kops” teams from the ’50s. I’d bet the current team leads the majors in:

– The obvious stuff like missing the cutoff man, the cutoff man missing the plate by more than 20 feet, not getting the ball out of the glove, the ball getting by the catcher (Michael Barrett, not Henry Blanco), giving up walks/hits when it counts, hitting groundouts/popups when it counts, etc.

– The manager pulling the wrong strings, maybe the only strings he’s got.

– Beginning each year confident they have the best pitching in the majors when the No. 1 and No. 2 starters are illusions.

– Popups hitting an infielder in the noggin.

– Opponents scoring from second base on a sacrifice fly.

Yadda, yadda. They’ve almost cured me.
