Milling around

Cuisipro’s Deluxe Food Mill will rice spuds and puree tomatoes–and keep out skins and/or seeds–with great efficiency. The stainless-steel, 2-quart mill has three disks that tackle many tasks. A plastic scraper attaches to the bottom to keep disks from clogging (though it’s tough to put on and remove). The mill is $70 at Bloomingdale’s Home & Furniture in Chicago and Dominic’s Kitchen Store in Park Ridge and by mail (dominicskitchenstore.com and 877-698-1255).

Made in the U.S.A.

California Keitt mangoes are showing up in area produce bins. They’re larger and softer than typical mangoes–and their skin is green when ripe. Of course, flavor is what counts. Most tasters enjoyed the supersweet orange flesh and creamy texture; two said they missed the tangy acidity of other

mango varieties. Keitts are $1.50 each at Meijer stores through September.

Starbucks in the supermarket

Starbucks’ supermarket varieties, sold in partnership with Kraft, have expanded to include a bold Africa Kitamu and medium Costa Rica Tarrazu ground coffees. Tasters, on the whole, enjoyed the coffees’ rich, smooth flavors–but one java-lover thought the Costa Rican brew was way too mild. Each 12-ounce bag costs $9.80-$11 at Treasure Island, Dominick’s, Jewel-Osco and Sunset Foods.
