Oak Park Elementary School District 97 on Wednesday unanimously adopted its 2007 school budget, a $57.1 million spending plan that includes reductions in staff and materials.
The district is expected to receive $54.2 million in revenue this year and will use cash reserves to help shore up the estimated $2 million deficit.
In addition to cash reserves, District 97 has relied on staff cuts and other cost savings to help bolster the bottom line. Cost reductions this year totaled $749,000 and included eliminating 10 positions, including administrative personnel, teachers at Hatch, Longfellow and Irving Schools, the position of technology director and lunch-room workers.
Retirements and reductions in supplies and materials also have contributed to the savings, officials said.
