Your Sept. 30 editorial on the cancellation of an opera based on security concerns ended with the statement, “People choose to read or not, to listen or not, to go to the opera or not. Those choices cannot be made for them by those who are intent on doing battle with Western culture.”
This issue, however, is about fundamentalism, not Western vs. non-Western culture. The fundamentalist Christian right takes exactly the same position as the Muslim fundamentalists: that they have all the right answers and have the right to make life’s decisions for everyone.
