James E. Slattery, age 90, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006 at Villa Franciscan, Joliet, born Sept. 10, 1916 in Chicago. Survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Irmgard M. Slattery; his 10 children, Joseph (Carol) Slattery, Mary T. (William) Stoner, Elizabeth (Daniel) Slatery-Riley, Monica Slattery, Francis (Kathy) Slattery, Stephen Slattery, Robert (D’Ann) Slattery, Catherine (Alun) Marsden, Patrick (Amy) Slattery and Timothy (Mary) Slattery; 18 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, John and Catherine, nee Fee, Slattery; siblings, Veronica Slattery, Lenore Barham, John Slattery and Sister Coletta Slattery; and cousin, Mary McNeal. James was a graduate of Quigley Seminary. Navigated the globe as a World War II Veteran of the Merchant Marines. Retired from Argonne National Laboratory after 35 years of service. Longtime member of the Cathedral of St. Raymond and St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. James was an Ambassador of Mary for St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church.
