In his Oct. 15 letter to the editor, Ald. Joe Moore (49th) wants everyone to applaud the new activism of the City Council. It depends on how he defines “activism.”

The public will applaud activism that addresses and tries to resolve the issues that affect our everyday lives: soaring property taxes, jobs, pollution, crime, housing, neighborhoods, transportation, health. The citizenry will not applaud, for example, activism that concerns itself with foie gras or activism that attempts to keep out of the city those businesses that would provide jobs and services, especially in depressed areas, as well as much-needed revenue to offset property taxes. I think in the latter cases, the City Council loses credibility.
