Seeing is essential for driving. Less daylight, swirling snow, road scum on the windshield and recalcitrant wipers conspire to make things tough.

– Clear the snow from your windshield, headlights and taillights. Make sure all your lights work and that the headlights are properly aimed.

– Clear snow from the hood so it doesn’t blow back at you. Clear it from your roof so it won’t obscure your rear window and to keep it from flying onto the car behind you.

– Keep your windshield washer jug full.

– Install winter blades, either the kind that have a rubber sheath over the mechanism or the kind that have no such superstructure.

– Keep a pair of sunglasses handy to avoid snow-blindness. If you need gloves, wear lightweight ones while driving.
