The queen of hip-hop soul could end up queen of the Grammys, as well.
Mary J. Blige earned a leading eight Grammy nominations on Thursday. “I’m overwhelmed right now,” Blige said. “To get them for this album makes me really excited. This album represents triumph and being a victor, not a victim.”
“The Breakthrough” has sold more than 6 million copies worldwide since its December 2005 release and is considered the most important of her career.
Others who earned nominations for the Feb. 11 awards show: The Red Hot Chili Peppers earned six nominations, The Dixie Chicks got five, John Mayer five, while Justin Timberlake and Gnarls Barkley got four each.
