I find myself quite frustrated that we are now approaching the end of this decade and we still haven’t named it.
In the late ’90s, I worried that people were not giving this matter serious attention. I wondered how the debate would develop and progress.
Would the first decade of the new millennium be “the oughts”? “The zeros”? “The O’s”?
Or perhaps something completely new?
Then I thought of my truly original idea: “The Double O’s.”
Under my scheme, for example, next year would be “Double O Seven” (with apologies to James Bond).
I’ve now decided to begin a grass-roots campaign.
As you readers attend your New Year’s Eve celebrations, or greet people on the street, instead of saying, “Happy New Year,” please say, “Happy Double O Seven.”
