Alleged mistreatment of Muslim prisoners at the U.S. military detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, has been an issue since the facility began housing them, and has sparked intense criticism of the U.S. at home and abroad.

Newly released documents from a 2004 survey of nearly 500 FBI employees who worked at the military prison show that agents at the naval base say they witnessed mistreatment, some of it religiously motivated.

Among the allegations: that an interrogator forced a prisoner to listen to “satanic black metal music” then dressed as a Catholic priest and baptized the prisoner. In another alleged incident, a detainee was seen sitting on the floor, draped in an Israeli flag and subjected to loud music and flashing strobe lights.

Below are excerpts of the FBI report with confidential material blocked out by the bureau.
