District 50
A group of 25 Woodland Middle School Builders Club members are building wooden banana holders for the Grayslake Senior Center. For the last several years, 6th- through 8th-grade pupils have made projects for the community. Last year, they created memo holders for the residents of Sunrise Assisted Living in Gurnee.
Highland Park
District 113
Five Highland Park High School students will travel to Belfast during spring break to participate in the Rotary program Toward a Better Understanding, which promotes awareness of global issues and the search for effective ways to resolve conflict. Eliza Brown, Clare Danley, Max Ellithorpe, Miguel Gonzalez and Kyle Lindsay will visit people in public positions, schools and the business community during their weeklong stay. Social science teacher Kate Straka and two Highland Park Rotary members will accompany the students.
Lake Forest
District 115
The Lake Forest High School pom dance team will host a clinic for pupils in grades 3 to 8 from 3:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 20 in the high school, 1285 McKinley Rd. Participants will perform a routine later that evening at a varsity basketball game. Registration is due by Sunday. The cost is $48. The registration form can be found at www.lfhs.org. Davy Jones, heartthrob of the ’60s TV show “The Monkees,” will perform at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 20 in Stevenson High School Performing Arts Center, Lincolnshire. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for students. For information, call 847-634-4000.

District 103
Lincolnshire-Prairie View District 103 will offer a preschool screening from 8 to 11 a.m. Feb. 16 in Sprague School, 2425 Riverwoods Rd., for 3 and 4-year-olds for whom there may be concerns in areas of gross and fine motor skills, speech/language or conceptual development. Vision and hearing screenings will also be offered. Call 847-295-4030 by Feb. 9 to schedule an appointment.

District 79
Fremont School District 79 was honored by the State Board of Education for good fiscal management. The School District Financial Profile System rates the fiscal health of districts in Illinois. District 79 rated a 3.90 out of a 4.00 rating.
