Scott Gomez and Sergei Brylin scored power-play goals 28 seconds apart in the third period to lead the Devils to a 2-1 win over the visiting Thrashers on Friday night.
Martin Brodeur made 25 saves, and New Jersey won for the fourth time in its last five games.
The Thrashers tied a season high with their fifth straight loss. Atlanta held the lead entering the third period in each of the last four defeats.
– Backup goalie Brent Johnson signed a two-year contract extension with the Capitals.
– Kings goalie Dan Cloutier underwent hip surgery and will be out indefinitely. Cloutier had a torn labrum in his hip repaired. He hasn’t played since Dec. 23.
– The Red Wings sent goaltender Joey MacDonald to their American Hockey League affiliate in Grand Rapids for a two-week conditioning assignment. MacDonald appeared in four games with an 0-2-1 record.
