Oprah Winfrey has, almost 17 years later, opened up about a relative’s betrayal.
In February’s issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, Winfrey says she cried for three days when a relative told the National Enquirer in 1990 that she became pregnant at 14 and lost the baby after birth.
Winfrey, who confirmed the report that same year, wrote in her column, “I felt devastated. Wounded. Betrayed. How could this person do this to me?”
News reports at the time said her half-sister sold the story to the Enquirer.
She says “that first betrayal” helped her begin to heal from the sexual abuse she experienced as a child.
