Nick E. Conroy, a 76 year old, resident of Grayslake, passed away on January 23, 2007, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Loretta; his daughter Patty (George) Loukas; his son Dale (Tricia) Conroy; his cherished grandchildren Nicholas, Stacey, Christina, and Kosta Loukas and Vanessa Conroy; his sister Anne Stroia; brother-in-law John O’Shea; sisters-in-law Marge Young and Jayne Shirilla; his aunt Dorothy Wittway and cousin Skip (Bev) Wittway and their families; and numerous nieces and nephews in Illinois, Arizona, Colorado, California, and Campbell, Ohio. Nick’s parents and sister Helen preceded him in death. He will also be missed by former employees and many close friends in California where he lived for 49 years. Nick served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He attended Youngstown University and worked for Sierracin Corporation for many years as an Aerospace Quality Control Engineer. Six years ago, he retired to Illinois to be near his children and grandchildren. In semi-retirement, he worked part-time at family-owned Cubby Bear North in Lincolnshire. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Belvidere Rd, Grayslake, IL 60030. Visitation will also be held on Saturday, January 27, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:30 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6401 Gages Lake Rd, Gurnee, IL. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville.
