These children of the drone blend hippie-folk gentility, witches-and-warlocks coed vocals and gypsy violins into extended tapestries that drift past the eight-minute mark. Though nothing on the Philadelphia sextet’s second album is particularly urgent or uptempo, the songs nonetheless are meticulously focused, each note played with purpose. The arrangements may unfold slowly, but the layers of exotic instrumentation–including singing bowls, doumbeks, dulcimer, sleigh bells and gongs–cast a mesmerizing spell, inevitably building to carefully orchestrated crescendos.
