– Revered jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins, 76, has won one of the world’s most prestigious music awards: the Polar Music Prize, which will be presented by King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden in Stockholm on May 21. Classical composer Steve Reich, 70, also will be awarded a Polar Music Prize during the same ceremony. The award recipients also get about $140,000.

– Former Motown star Smokey Robinson is voicing his displeasure over “Dreamgirls.” During an interview that aired Thursday on NPR’s “Morning Edition,” Robinson said he found the film, which is nominated for eight Oscars, “offensive” in its fictional depiction of a Motown-like record label. “There’s a lot of false information in there–and millions of people are seeing it every day,” Robinson said.

– Nicole Kidman was taken to a Los Angeles hospital after the Jaguar she was in crashed early Thursday during shooting of the science-fiction thriller “The Invasion,” police said. Kidman was examined at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and released a short time later.

– David Lee Roth is back with Van Halen and planning to tour, the Los Angeles Times reports. The mercurial Roth, who officially left Van Halen on April Fool’s Day in 1985, will reunite with his old band for a tour that kicks off in North Carolina in early May, according to sources in the concert industry. Joining Roth will be Eddie and Alex Van Halen. But bassist Michael Anthony reportedly will be replaced by Eddie Van Halen’s teen son, Wolfgang.

– Three groups are urging ABC News not to keep CNN news personality Glenn Beck on as a “Good Morning America” commentator. The Arab American Institute, American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee and the Muslim Public Affairs Council said Thursday that Beck has stated on his show that Arab and Muslim Americans are apathetic toward terrorism. During an interview last year with Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), the first Muslim member of Congress, Beck asked him to “prove to me that you are not working with our enemies.”
