Avalanche forward Paul Stastny extended his point streak to 17 games Wednesday night, tying the NHL rookie record with a first-period assist against the Sabres. He added a second assist as Colorado won 3-2 at Buffalo to stretch its winning streak to five. Wojtek Wolski scored the go-ahead goal 1 minute 41 seconds into the third period.

Stastny also set the franchise rookie record, breaking the 16-game mark set by his father, Peter, in 1980 with the Quebec Nordiques. The 17-game streak is the longest in the NHL this season and the best run since Ottawa’s Dany Heatley had a point in 22 consecutive games from Oct. 5 to Nov. 29, 2005.
