Yesterday, the question was which side of the dilemma senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama would land on: vote against the Feingold-Reid legislation that would require defunding the Iraq War after March 31 of next year and risk antagonizing anti-war Democrats or vote for the bill and get beat up by Republicans accusing them of not supporting the troops.
In a procedural vote, they decided to vote with 26 other Democrats and one independent (Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont) to end debate on Feingold-Reid.
The beating dispensed by Republicans commenced nearly immediately, with a “research briefing” (Download 051607ResearchObamaHillary.pdf) from the Republican National Committee that included this passage:
PRIMARIES OVER PRINCIPLE
Presidential Candidates Clinton And Obama Pander To Left-Wing Primary Voters By Supporting Timeline For Withdrawal And Cutting Funds For Our Troops
