Floyd F. Shewmake Sr., M.D., of Western Springs, formerly of LaGrange Park. Beloved husband of the late Loretta A., nee Wolski; loving father of Floyd F. Jr., M.D. (Peggy), Larry (DeNae), Mike, Jim, and Judy (Thomas) Gleason; devoted grandfather of six; dear great-grandfather of two; fond uncle of many. Preceded in death by his close companion of over 20 years Joan “Bunny” Smith. Dr. Shewmake graduated Medical School in 1944 and served his residency in New Jersey. He then opened his first private practice in LaGrange Park, which existed for several years. He then joined Dr. Edward S. Baxter and practiced jointly with him for nearly 10 years in Western Springs. He then opened his second private practice in Clarendon Hills, which existed for nearly 10 years before he joined Family Healthcare of Hinsdale group practice, from which he retired in the 1980’s. He was a member of the Illinois State Medical Society, wherein he received the 50-year club membership certificate on April 23, 1994. He practiced at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital for over 50 years. Memorial visitation 10 a.m. until time of Memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2007 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside.
