… Indians starter Paul Byrd, who yielded five runs and 10 hits in five innings to fall to 6-3. The right-hander, who hasn’t won since May 30, has given up 31 hits in 15 innings in his last three starts. Ex-Sox Willie Harris had a pair of RBIs and scored twice against him.

For the second straight game, Dodgers right-hander Jason Schmidt didn’t get out of the fifth inning. This time he gave up three runs and five hits in 4 2/3 innings, walking four and uncorking two wild pitches with just two strikeouts in a 3-0 loss to the Angels.

The newest Orioles bullpen member, Jim Hoey, had a forgettable big-league debut. The 24-year-old, who put together a 21 1/3 -inning scoreless streak between Double and Triple A this season, gave up three runs in the ninth inning of an 8-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.
