Citizens United, a conservative group, has a new ad featuring former House Speaker Newt Gingrich that opposes what it calls the “McCain-Kennedy” immigration-reform bill that has gained new life in the Senate after appearing virtually dead last week
Here’s a link to the ad.
And here’s the ad’s script:
The argument about the proposed legislation allowing terrorists and gang bangers to gain legal status is arguably extraneous to Gingrich’s argument since those who oppose the legislation, like Gingrich and Citizens United, are fundamentally against giving people who broke the law by entering the country without proper documentation a path to citizenship, period.
So it doesn’t really matter, in this way of thinking, if the illegal immigrant is a violent criminal, a would be Mohammed Atta or a benign landscaping-company worker. But it does add an extra rhetorical punch to Gingrich’s assertion.
