WEEKEND BEST BETS

Good as gold

In a city saturated with street fests, only the strong survive. If you want to see how it’s done, take a lesson in longevity from the 50th Annual Gold Coast/River North Art Fair. On its golden anniversary, the fair glistens with paintings, sculptures, glass and other juried works for sale, plus an appearance by “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” Ted Allen (10 a.m. Saturday). Noon Friday, 10 a.m. Saturday-Sunday. Free. River North Gallery District, 700 N. LaSalle Drive. 847-444-9600.

Hey, Mickey!

With his bad-boy image and penchant for lewd lyrics, we wouldn’t dream of bringing Mickey Avalon home to meet the ‘rents. But we have no problem rubbing shoulders with the Hollywood rapper out at a club. Avalon blows into new River North nightspot Manor on Friday to perform his hip-hop and punk hits “So Rich So Pretty,” “Mr. Right” and more. DJ Gusto opens and closes out the night. 10 p.m. Friday. $20. 642 N. Clark St. 312-475-1390.

Time warp

We’re all for seizing the moment, but sometimes living in the past is just too tempting to pass up. Take Retro on Roscoe, for example. The annual fest takes you back with live tunes from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, plus an antique car show, vendors and old-school games. For an extra $4, sample eats at the annual Windy City Chili Cook-Off. Proceeds benefit the Roscoe Village Neighbors. 11 a.m. Saturday-Sunday. $5. Roscoe Street from Damen Avenue to Leavitt Street. 773-665-4682.

Buff up

Prefer cult classics to ’80s classics? Sink your teeth into the Buffy/Angel Slay-A-Thon, a TV marathon serving up 13 hours of your favorite “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel” episodes, plus auctions, games, trivia contests and themed giveaways. Donations benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation. 11 a.m. Saturday. Free. Dave & Buster’s, 1030 N. Clark St. 847-317-8877. Registration required: slayathon.org.

Seer shuffle

Lifelong love? A lottery jackpot? A new job? If only you knew what life had in store, things would be so much easier. If you think you can handle the truth, hit the annual Psychic Sunday Party at Kit Kat Lounge and Supper Club. Tarot reader Therese tells you what’s in the cards while you toast the good news — or just drown your sorrows — with half-price martinis. 5:30 p.m. Sunday. No cover; $15 per reading. 3700 N. Halsted St. 773-525-1111.

Belize breeze

Everyone deserves their day in the sun, and tiny Central American nation Belize gets its due at Belize Day in the Park. The 27th annual fest features more than 100 food and merchandise vendors and live music from the Belize Five and others. 10 a.m. Sunday Free. Washington Park, 5700 S. Payne Drive. 773-881-0412.
